Story: John Oldroyd (1818 - 1905)

From Lois Willis, added to this site 1 Jun 2003

JOHN OLDROYD was born 1819 in Wakefield, Yorks., England, and died 12 September 1905 in Cambridge St, Collingwood, Victoria, Australia.

John Oldroyd died of senile decay. The informant at his death was George Gill, brother in law, Northcote.

His death certificate shows he lived for 10 years in South Australia. His death certificate shows he had no issue to his three marriages. However, family records list Hannah and Elizabeth as his daughters. It may be that he had illegitimate children - there are a few on the South Australian Birth indexes that have John Oldroyd listed as father and are listed under the mother's name as well as Oldroyd - it may be that he fathered several illegitimate children.
