Obituary: Mr William Derby, Korong Vale
We regret to record the death of another pioneer of the district, in the person of Mr William Derby, which occurred at his home at Korong Vale on Tuesday morning last. Death followed an apoplectic seizure. Deceased was taken ill on Sunday night and Dr Embling, who was hastily summoned, held at no hope of his recovery. He died on Tuesday without regaining consciousness.The late Mr Derby, with his two brothers, came to the district many years ago, and took up land, being located at Woolshed Flat. Some time ago he retired from farming and moved to Korong Vale. He was 70 years of age, and was a man highly respected and esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He leaves a wife but no children.
The funeral took place on Wednesday when the remains were interred in the Korong Vale cemetery, Mr J Tippett of the Methodist Church, read the burial service at the grave side. Messrs Jenkin Bros had charge of the funeral arrangements.
