Korong Vale and district residents were shocked on Sunday last to hear of the death of that well-known resident, Mr. John Faulks, which occurred with startling suddenness that morning.
There was nothing in deceased's demeanour to denote that his end was so near. In fact, he attended a dance on the previous night and was his usual, happy self. In the circumstances, the shock of his sudden seizure to his near relatives can be well imagined and the sympathy of all goes out to them.
Deceased was a railway employee and was very popular among his work mates. He was aged 60 years. A widow and grown-up family of four daughters are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and devoted father. The children are Hilda, Marjorie (Mrs C. G. Smith), Jean (Mrs F. E. Matthews) and Reita.
The funeral on Monday afternoon last to the Korong Vale cemetery was one of the largest ever seen. The cortege was headed by railway employees, who marched to the graveside. The polished oak casket was borne by Messrs W. Faulks, G Faulks, R Faulks, F Vernon, Bert Gibbs and "Barney" Waters (all railway men), while the pall was held by Messrs H. Osborne, C. Cousins, N. Manhier, A Thompson, J. Shannon and N. Matthews. Tray bearers were Messrs F. Matthews and C. Smith. The Rev. A.E. Rosewarne held a service at deceased's late residence, before the graveside service which he also conducted. Mr. Boden Jackel officiated for the Masonic service at the graveside.
Mr Les Appleby had the mortuary arrangements.
